Position: Research scientist in machine learning and computational linguistics to work on natural language generation

Job description: The ideal candidate is a statistician/computer scientist with knowledge in computational linguistics an d a strong interest in the formally-inspired and/or statistical/machine-learning approaches to natural language processing and generation. The position requires a Ph.D. in one of the following fields: statistics, computational linguistics, natural language processing, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, or a related field. Applicants will have to demonstrate their capacity to define or implement research plans, and to conduct collaborative research on the technologies developed at Xerox Research Centre Europe .

Current research in computational linguistics at XRCE includes information retrieval, syntactic and semantic analysis of text, machine translation, etc. including symbolic and stochastic, theory and data-driven approaches. Proficiency in multiple approaches relevant to the current research topics will be highly valued, as will an ability to participate in their implementation.

Research topics of particular interest include:

  • robust semantic interpretation from noisy data (e.g. fragment parsing, semantic role labeling);
  • building semantic similarity between text, recognizing textual entailment;
    probabilistic modeling text generation processes;
  • discourse modeling.
